Born from research developed during the GlogauAir Berlin 2024 Residency, this series explores the complexity of female identity in tension with social norms and technological advancement. Using her own worn clothing as primary material — garments charged with lived experience — Englebert builds a visual language that probes the layers of social conditioning and subjectivity that shape the contemporary female psyche.
Within "Solutio", where identity is understood as an alchemical process of dissolution, transformation, and material reconfiguration, "Restos de Mí" situates itself at the most radical point of that process: calcination. In this work, garments worn by the artist — bearers of traces, habits, and mandates — are reduced to ash, losing all form, function, and legibility. What is presented in the jars is no longer the garment nor its direct memory, but its ultimate residue: an undifferentiated matter that condenses, without being able to represent them, the multiple versions of the self that those garments helped to construct. Each jar thus operates as an impossible archive, where what has been lived can no longer be reconstructed but only pointed to as loss. In continuity with the operations of unstitching, weaving, and melting present throughout the series, this work pushes the logic of transformation to its limit: it is no longer a matter of reconfiguring identity, but of confronting what persists of it when all structure has been dissolved.
